Course detail

This is the first nationally accredited award for manual handling trainers. The requirements having been agreed with the sector, the national awarding council FETAC and the Health and Safety Authority.

This programme is designed to enable candidates acquire the skills and knowledge required to develop, deliver and assess workplace based manual handling training course.

This course is broken down into sections as follows:

  1. Legislation
  2. Spinal Injuries & Back Care
  3. Manual Handling Risk Assessment
  4. Manual Handling Skills
  5. Individual Training Needs Analysis

Course Design

Course Delivery & Assessment

Course assessment is broad, allowing you the opportunity to demonstrate the skills & knowledge acquired. The assessment consists of a one hour written examination A short research assignment and successful demonstration of skills covered.

Successful completion leads to a Level 6 FETAC Specific Purpose Certificate in Manual Handling Instruction and a Security Institute Certificate in Training and Assessment of Manual Handling Skills.

Certification leads to inclusion on the “Manual Handling Instruction” category of the National Qualifications Register (NQR) which is published on The Security Institute website.
