Certification of persons is one means of providing assurance that the certified person meets the requirements of the certification scheme. Confidence in the respective certification schemes is achieved by means of a globally accepted process of assessment, subsequent surveillance and periodic re-assessments of the competence of certified persons

The key elements in the Certification scheme are:

Establish market need / desire (i.e. improvement of the profession) or specific government requirements (i.e. protection of the public).

Appointment of a Scheme Committee by the Certification Body who represent interested parties such as end users, subject matter experts, employers, students, training providers and governmental authorities to develop assessment standards, surveillance methods and recertification criteria

All assessments are carried out by independent assessors with subject matter expertise appointed by the Certifying Body. Assessors will have had no involvement in the training of candidates and must sign a Code of Conduct.

All assessment material submitted by assessors is independently evaluated by an Evaluator with the relevant expertise appointed by the Certifying Body. Evaluators will have had no involvement in the training or assessment of candidates and must sign a Code of Conduct.

The Certifying Body makes the final decision on Certification.
